Garden 4
The Long Paddock
Hailing from the UK, we came to the Hinterland in 2004, then 3½ years ago we settled on a 12,140m² (3 acres) property with sweeping valley views.
Originally an avocado orchard, we kept the front of the property as is and then set about clearing the back garden to take advantage of the magnificent valley views. One of the interesting parts of our new gardening journey has been learning to understand the Australian seasons, quite different from what we were used to in the U.K. We have had many failures, but each failure has led to understanding important lessons about plants and what type of conditions, be it soil or climate they prefer.
Roses, hibiscus and hydrangeas nestle in the garden beds we have created, to form the foreground to the valley backdrop.
