Return to the Maleny Garden Club History Homepage.

Traditionally the Maleny District Horticultural Society, now the Maleny Garden Club, has used the medium of flower shows to raise funds for community organisations. The Autumn and Spring Fairs, Gardening on the Edge events and a return to the Spring Fairs have been the source of many community donations.

Within a few months of the Maleny District Horticultural Society being formed the Society set about supporting local organisations. The first function that was supported (or sponsored) by the Horticultural Society was in March 1953 for the Country Women’s Association (CWA) Dahlia Show where the highlight was a Floral Carpet.

Not all fundraising undertaken at the Autumn and Spring Fairs was for the Community Centre or the Maleny Ambulance – this Christmas function was to raise funds for Parkinson’s Disease and was held in the Community Centre. (Year unknown. Photo courtesy Margaret Stevenson)
