It was a wet day for Maleny Garden Club’s first 2020 meeting but dozens attended, to catch up after the long holiday break.
There were 43 entries in the plant competition – a good showing after the dry spell.

Harvey Weston then took out all three places in the Rose competition.
In the All Else category, Harvey then won first place with a purple Petrea, Second was Dennis Doble’s Hibiscus – (Persephone variety) and joint third was Toni Walters’ Black Tulip Magnolia as well as Norma McLeod’s Fuchsia.
Norma then won the Bunch Of Flowers category, with Lynda Reynolds in second and Harvey Weston in third.
In the Fruit And Vegetable competition, Ian Reimers was first with his raspberries and second with some large tomatoes, while Dennis Doble came third with his mangoes.
Dennis then won the Australian Native category, followed by Audrey Brown and Marion Robertson in joint second and joint third were Anita Futcher and Toni Walters.
Our guest speaker was Russell Young who spoke about rare and unusual plants, as well as their ideal situations (sun or shade). He also gave some tips on pest control and fertiliser.
