Toowoomba resident Mike Wells is particularly passionate about helping homeowners turn any bare soil into a productive patch for fruit and vegetables.
At the Maleny Spring Fair on Saturday October 3, he’ll speak at the morning session about the steps in preparing and developing a championship garden.
Intent on helping to spread the word that gardening is good for the soul as well as the planet, Mike turned his love for plants into a career in horticulture spanning over 25 years.
He has shared his knowledge as a TAFE horticultural educator for two decades and has written a widely-read weekly gardening column in the Toowoomba Chronicle since 2013, as well as contributing to numerous gardening publications.
Mike also loves to help solve gardeners’ problems on ABC Southern Qld gardening talkback, every second Saturday at 9am.
His passion for plants and all things gardening has also seen him manage a retail and wholesale plant nursery and small crops farm, as well as running a successful garden establishment and maintenance business.
He operates a horticultural consultancy, Wellsley Horticulture, specialising in garden design, plant selection, soil improvement, plant nutrition, and efficient irrigation,
He has also managed and provided technical support in Queensland for a well-known Australian garden product business.
Mike also is in demand as a garden judge and as a speaker for regional gardening clubs and interest groups.
