Six community groups in and around Maleny are benefiting from funds raised by Gardening on the Edge 2019.
Presentation of cheques was made by Maleny Garden Club president Dot Jupp, on behalf of Gardening on the Edge convenor Jan Maguire at the club meeting in November.
Recipients spoke of the improvements that funds from GOE were making and future plans.
Janene McCarthy from Range Care spoke about the expansion of the service on the Blackall Range.
David Sprigwood from Maleny Hospital spoke of the difference green spaces make to the health of both patients and staff at the local hospital.
Joe Eastmure from the Maleny Rural Fire Brigade spoke of the recent Booroobin fire which took three weeks to extinguish. He said the new fire shed at Maleny could be finished by the end of next year but would need fitting out.
Maleny High School chaplain Micah Jones spoke of the importance of successful mentoring programs at the school, as did Chaplain Becky Francis from the Maleny Primary School.
Ray Hegerty from Maleny Men’s Shed spoke of a new area being developed at the site to provide a clean space for leatherwork, chess and other activities, including morning tea.
